Artist statement…

Inspiration for my work comes from the travels I have taken in various places on this Continent; museums visited and people I have met.

Two trips to Japan have had a profound impact on my working with clay as well as a trip to China. Teaching ceramics and photography in Italy and France have also subtly influenced directions in my work.

Change and growth are important aspects to the direction of new work. Ideas for shapes are inspired sometimes without me knowing how subtle they take place.
Exploring new forms and refining old ones keep my work moving, changing and constantly growing. I believe that it should be fun to work in clay, whether it’s throwing on the wheel or doing ceramic sculpture.

I watch the evolution of my work over these past 38 years almost as an outsider; never certain what change will emerge, but always interested in finding out.
