Artist statement…

A native of Lizella GA, Mark R Merritt is a sixth generation Merritt - Crawford County GA potter. Following his rich heritage in pottery, Mark throws traditional Crawford County pottery, as well as, so more contemporary pieces; and glazes in the same manner...using traditional ash to more contemporary type glazes. His work is signed "MRM" and dated.

He is the grandson of the late Jewel Merritt and great-great grandson of Jack (Jack) Merritt. His great great, great uncle is William Dennis (Billy) Merritt. Mark's family history is recorded in John Burrison's book, Brother's In Clay.

Mark is married to Coni and has two children, Josh 15 and Hannah 12.

He resides in Macon GA.
